Hi there! We're Hannah and Justin, the farmers at Rue de Bungaloo Farm. We made our farm dream a reality in 2020 after purchasing 12 acres of land from Hannah's family in Athens, WI. Before that, we spent many years working on organic farms, taking classes and attending conferences, and traveling the world from Normandy to Maui learning about how food is produced. We are in love with good food, and good food is only possible when we take good care of our Mother! We're committed to bringing the most delicious, unique, and climate friendly food possible to your plate!
Many people wonder about the story behind our farm name. You may know that Rue is the French word for street. Therefore our farm name honors the street, or road, named Bungaloo. Hannah's family farm has existed here for 5 generations, and we're farming on a part of this land nestled along the corner of Bungaloo and Frank Rd. Hannah's great-great grandfather is even credited with bestowing the name "Bungaloo" to the road! He operated the Bungaloo Bar in the neighborhood, and planted apple trees among other things at his family's homestead. What does Bungaloo mean? We don't exactly know, but for us this name pays homage to our farming heritage and community. The word sounds a lot like "bungalow" which could be thought of as another word for "home." We certainly like thinking of our farm this way. We tied in the "Rue de" to the name because of one of our favorite people, Julie Child. While reading her book, My Life In France, we liked the way she affectionately referred to her favorite Paris home on Rue de l'Universite as "Roo de Loo" and we couldn't help but adapt it for our own farm name. That's how Rue de Bungaloo Farm was born!
We focus on ecologically friendly farming here! That means:
